WATERSCAPES
I love the water..... One can almost be in sensory overload when near the ocean, as the waves crash, filling the air with salty freshness. It is such a force to be reckoned with. When I am painting water, I am facinated with the reflecting light and capturing the movements & depth, reflections & atmosphere. It is a total pleasure for all my senses to be painting with watercolors! I hope you can sense the taste, sounds & feelings of the water.

I kept pulling off the road near the water to look at the coastline and take pictures. This painting was a composite of many of the views I saw over a period of time, and painted in my studio.

Same location near Bodega Bay, only I was obsessed with the motion of the waves, catching the water's movements as I held my watercolor block on my lap & painted directly onto the paper, peering down as the waves made foam & froth into spray, coming & receding back out again. The white in this painting is totally untouched white Arches paper.

Painted one fine summer day in Golden Gate Park of San Francisco, I chose to access a limited palette of color, creating this cool monochromatic scene. I especially enjoyed the calm water and majestic trees before me as I painted, with whiffs of blooming flowers surrounding me.

A clam day in the shade until I realized that my subject was disappearing! The brush picked up speed to paint faster in order to catch the grass before the tide came in & the grass disappeared completely.
